Job Description

Finance Director

Do you want to join a truly purpose-driven organisation and department? Are you motivated by driving the financial steering and management of the grant portfolio and operating cost of Novo Nordisk Foundation?

We are seeking a Finance Director to lead our Finance department and support the Novo Nordisk Foundation on our exciting journey ahead, expanding our grant-giving activities within Denmark and globally.

This role will offer you a unique opportunity to work in an ambitious, private foundation with passionate and talented colleagues who are committed to our vision to improve people’s health and the sustainability of society and the planet. In 2022, the Novo Nordisk Foundation awarded DKK 7.5 bn in grants, making it one of the largest philanthropic actors in the world.

The Job

As Finance Director you will act as a business partner to the CFO, management teams, and project teams and drive a resource allocation mindset to maximise Novo Nordisk Foundation’s impact and value creation. You will collaborate with a broad stakeholder group to establish processes and help build a scalable organisation, while being an inspiring leader to four employees in the Finance department, providing daily coaching and guidance and being responsible for the development of the team. Your daily tasks will include:

  • Set strategy and direction for the Finance function.
  • Drive the digitalisation and automation agenda within the Finance department, in collaboration with the other CFO departments, to build operational excellence.
  • Collaborate with a broad stakeholder group (scientific programme areas, functional support areas, Novo Holdings, Novo Nordisk Foundation entities) to develop and implement efficient processes and help build a scalable organisation.
  • Act as both individual contributor and manager, with solid Excel and PPT capabilities, and an ability to be operational.
  • Continue the development of a financial framework for management prioritisation of impactful grant-awarding.
  • Drive financial support of an increasingly global reach of the grants to science, education, innovation, and humanitarian efforts.

You will report to the Chief Finance Officer in the Novo Nordisk Foundation.

Professional and Personal Qualifications

We are looking for a person with a minimum of 10 years of proven experience working with Financial planning amp; analysis, Forecasting and budgeting, Financial Portfolio Management and Operational Excellence. Whether you have experience from a corporate setting, a university or the public sector is less important. But it will be a benefit, if you have experience working with corporate or philanthropic foundations and in an innovative and research focused environment. Furthermore, we imagine that you have:

  • A relevant Master's degree within finance, economics or other relevant field
  • Experience building robust and efficient core processes, ensuring a high level of automation and standardisation.
  • Solid (but not necessarily expert) understanding of accounting and tax basics.
  • Solid understanding of IT and digital finance - and how technology can enable an organisation.
  • Natural flair for stakeholder management and being an inspirational leader, who leads by example and acts as a true culture bearer in the organisation. Balances details and strategic thinking.

As a person, you are a proactive, self-motivated and high-paced individual with a fact-based, structured management style and high analytical capacity. You are used to getting strong feedback on your excellent business acumen and a strategic mindset combined with high integrity, ambitions, and commitment. And your former stakeholders and employees still talk about your great leadership skills and an ability, based on high social intelligence. Furthermore, to thrive in this role it is important that you are:

  • Value driven and passionate.
  • An ambassador for the values that define the culture of our organisation: Commitment, Ambition and Respect.
  • A well-rounded and team-oriented leader focused on success of the business rather than personal ambitions, enforcing strong group performance, creating buy-in and encouraging a good working atmosphere.
  • Well-organised and systematic with good problem-solving skills combined with a hands-on approach.
  • Capable of building credibility through excellent interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Working at the Novo Nordisk Foundation
We offer a committed and professional workplace in which we emphasize ensuring that our colleagues thrive, are challenged and have opportunities to develop their potential. A career at the Novo Nordisk Foundation gives you the opportunity to work:
