Job Description

Quantum Foundry Copenhagen is looking for experienced crystal growth experts (SiGe and III-V) to develop next generation quantum chip fabrication based on Ultra High Vacuum systems

Do you want to be a part of pioneering quantum computing in a world-class quantum ecosystem in the heart of Copenhagen? Quantum Foundry Copenhagen is a newly founded company, owned by the Novo Nordisk Foundation (NNF), aimed at developing next generation Quantum Computing Processor technologies.

Our mission is to establish a foundry capable of manufacturing quantum processor units using novel UHV methods that meet the extreme requirements for purity and precision that are needed to bring Quantum Computing to scale.

In close collaboration with the NNF Quantum Computing Program (NQCP) at the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen, and other international quantum computing initiatives, the objective is to pioneer UHV-based fabrication and packaging methods for manufacturing state-of-the-art quantum processors. Quantum Foundry Copenhagen has novel and ambitious approaches including the use of UHV, in-situ fabrication and will also develop new tools and techniques for chip production.

Quantum Foundry Copenhagen is assembling a small and growing team of talented and diverse international professionals. We are located adjacent to the Niels Bohr Institute in the heart of Copenhagen. Quantum Foundry Copenhagen is part of a vibrant and growing Danish quantum ecosystem and collaborates closely with world-leading researchers in the NNF quantum computing program that will facilitate and drive research and innovations at multiple levels from developing scalable quantum processor technologies to solutions for the quantum-classical control and readout interface, and all the way to quantum algorithms and applications.

The Job

You will be working closely as part of the Tools Development Team and Platform Integration team from NQCP as well as with international partners. You will be working on the development of innovative CVD and MBE based epitaxy processes for quantum processors based on semiconducting, superconducting, or photonic qubits.

Your duties and tasks will include:

  • Development and improvement of wafer-scale SiGe or III-V epitaxy methods, which may include high quality low-dimensional material platforms, such as planar two-dimensional electron gasses, quantum dots and/or scalable nanostructured crystal growth.
  • Develop and support manufacturing strategy and programme roadmap for leading-edge quantum processor development.
  • Improve and implement standards for systems engineering and data logging/analysis concepts.
  • Perform tests, troubleshoot / debug performance issues on tools and processes.
  • Establish in-line inspection for fast loop materials development.
  • Analyse requirements against existing capabilities and estimate risks and yields for new processes.

The level of the position and the scope of responsibilities will be based on experience and background.

Professional and Personal Qualifications

We are looking for an expert in Silicon and Germanium SiGe or III-V crystal growth methods by MBE of quantum materials, to be part of an innovative team that develops an ultra-pure and roubust materials platform for quantum processor units (QPUs).

To succeed in the position, you have:

  • A Master or PhD degree in material science, chemical engineering, physics or related
  • 3+ years’ experience with materials synthesis, nanodevice fabrication or system integration.
  • Preferably experience with SiGe or III-V crystal growth methods using MBE and/or CVD,
  • Familiar with system engineering concepts and proficient in data tracking and analysis methods

It would be an advantage if you:

  • Have knowledge about nanofabrication techniques including e-beam and optical lithography, dry and wet etching methods, evaporation, bonding, dicing, and packaging.
  • Are familiar with system engineering concepts and proficient in data tracking and analysis methods
  • Have the ability to assume a technical leadership role.
