Job Description

Join the Innovation and Research team in a leading and fast-growing biotech company

Ascendis Pharma is establishing a new group to provide scientific support for our intellectual property functions to strengthen our offensive and defensive patent strategies.

You will become responsible for proactively work with innovation, research and IP teams to identify, obtain, organize, distill, appropriately format, and communicate critical scientific data for use in offensive and defensive patent strategies. You will join a highly scientific team of researchers focused on building and protecting Ascendis Pharma’s pipeline of new and potentially best-in-class therapies. You will report directly to the SVP of Innovation and Research.

Main areas of responsibility:

  • Leverage a working knowledge and understanding of the technical and scientific nuances of Ascendis and competitor products or technologies, to conduct strategic database searches
  • Be the scientific point person for certain pipeline programs for key patents and literature
  • Conduct granular analysis of search results and draft concise summaries of large amounts of data
  • Apply effective search strategies and conduct research using secondary resources (published company information, SEC filings, scholarly journals, patent databases, trade literature)
  • The analyst may also work alongside the innovation and research departments to conduct analysis related new technologies

Criteria of success in the role will be to critical thinking, attention to detail and a never-ending desire to get to the bottom of complex scientific issues.

You have a strong scientific mindset and technical background, with a PhD in chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, engineering or the life sciences, in addition you have outstanding writing and analytical skills, and top academic credentials are essential.

  • Patent training is not required, but interest in patents essential
  • Experience with endocrinology or immunooncology is considered an asset

You are proficient in English at a professional level, both written and spoken, and you master MS Office.

You are a highly motivated individual who enjoys being challenged and working in collaborative environments. You are likely to have a strong interest in:

  • Understanding the science behind various drug targets and drug delivery technologies
  • How patenting is used strategically in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Providing scientific and literature support for patent interference and litigation proceedings

Travelling: 10-15 days per year.
