Senior Scientist/Principal Scientist; Biology amp; Pharmacology

Ascendis Pharma is currently expanding its expertise within Biology amp; Pharmacology with specific scientific focus on endocrinology/growth plate biology.

You will join the Biology amp; Pharmacology Team in the SVP area of Non-Clinical Development and Bioanalysis. The team, which currently comprises three highly skilled and experienced biologists/pharmacologists, is responsible for defining and implementing integrated biology, non-clinical pharmacology, and translational biomarker strategies to support drug candidates from early innovative research to and through clinical development.

Main areas of responsibility:

  • Be the scientific expert/go-to person within growth plate disorders, with specific focus on but not limited to the function of C-type natriuretic peptide
  • Provide biology and pharmacology input to the TransCon CNP program (currently in phase II) and future clinical programs
  • Initiate and co-ordinate non-clinical pharmacology studies to support one or more projects in collaboration with CROs
  • Design, conduct and coordinate relevant in vivo pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, and proof-of-principle studies to support early research projects in collaboration with CROs
  • Support identification of new therapy areas and setting up the nonclinical strategies to explore new targets
  • Explore biology of new indications, targets and generate nonclinical ‘business cases’
  • Write the pharmacology section of INDs/CTAs and contribute to other regulatory documents
  • Publication of non-clinical efficacy/pharmacology and proof of principle data and reporting of scientific results in patents

You hold a PhD and/or post-doc training within a relevant biological, physiological or pharmacology science specialization with ideally 7 or more years’ experience focused on research and/or drug development. Relevant experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industries and in working with CROs is considered an advantage.

You have

  • A strong scientific and experimental background in endocrinology preferentially growth plate biology - and you enjoy integrating complex scientific ideas into hypothesis-driven strategies
  • Experience in conducting animal studies, being the hands-on lead
  • Demonstrated success and expertise in designing and implementing biology and pharmacology strategies/analyses
  • Understanding of other relevant scientific disciplines including drug metabolism, drug transport, biopharmaceutics, and toxicology
  • Experience in reporting scientific results via patents and publication of nonclinical efficacy, pharmacology, and proof of principle data
  • Experience in drafting pharmacology section of INDs/CTAs and contributing to regulatory documents for submission is considered an advantage
  • The ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with key stakeholders, present data and articulate seminal scientific questions and provide clear recommendations
  • A detail- and quality-oriented mindset

You are proficient in English at a professional level, both written and spoken, and you master MS Office.
