Backend Engineer, Wine Team

Job Description
The Vivino Wine team is looking to hire a Backend Engineer to maintain our wine database and tools to manage it, work on label scanning, and wine matching services. Our goals are to increase user engagement, personalize their experience, improve product recommendations, and support content moderation.
As our Backend Engineer, you’ll build APIs, tools, and services to support our teams!
You will build features impacting millions of users every day using Golang, relational and non-relational databases. We keep our APIs performant and responsive, with Kafka used to offload asynchronous tasks.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Write, review, and maintain code primarily in Golang, Ruby, and Javascript
- Support your team and help them with code reviews, testing, and development
- Improve upon our development processes and conventions
- Work with complicated datasets in complex environments
You are a curious, communicative person who is eager to learn, and share your knowledge.
The Wine team equally splits their time between product management, engineering goals, and team efforts giving us a lot of self-governance and ownership over the work we do.
Adding to the above, we also envision that you have and can demonstrate:
- 5+ years of experience providing backend development to products and enterprise software
- 3+ years of experience working with Golang
- A breadth of experience in compiled programming languages. Our team's main language is Golang, but we also have projects spanning across multiple languages.
- Proficiency with relational databases like MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MS SQL.
- Experience with GIT is a plus
- Able to read, write, and speak English fluently
