I am a Graphic Designer with both a theoretical and a practical approach to my craft: I studied International Business Communication at University of Southern Denmark where I learned about the theoretical aspects of visual communication and I studied to become a graphic designer at the Technical School of Copenhagen where learning the craft is in focus.
During my education in graphic design, I was enrolled in a 2,5-years apprenticeship position at the world-renowned architect studio Henning Larsen Architects. This experience taught me how to work well with an international environment where ambitions are high and great quality is expected. I had the opportunity to work closely together with seasoned graphic designers, interior designs and architects, which help shape my visual understanding of what great design looks like.
I made a visual identity for a series of musical concerts and masterclasses that were hosted by The Danish School in Paris. I Applied the new identity to social media posts, motion graphics, posters, a concert program and develop templates which the employees could use for future events.
I spent approx. 80% of my time on layout of Investment Memorandums, a booklet that presents a business case with graphs, tables, texts, and images to potential investors. I spent another 10% on implementation and development of the visual identity and the last 10% on social media posts, campaigns, banners and website.
I produced a concert program (booklet of 12 pages) for an inauguration concert of a restored piano. The booklet included sheet music composed by classical pianists and essays written by former residents of the house. The booklet was multilingual (Danish and French). In the process, I picked out everything from the choise of font combination to the quality of the paper and where to print the booklets.
I Designed a website for the organization “En af os” (red. One of Us) whose mission it is to educate medical personnel on how to approach patients with mental illnesses. When I had finished the design in Adobe XD, I handed it over to a developer who coded the website.
I produce branded materials for IBM’s headquarters in Denmark and I participated in the “brainstorm phase” of two campaigns. I learned what it means to work in a fast-paced studio environment.
In this 2,5 year-apprenticeship position, I made everything from layout of booklets, posters, hiring materials, SoMe-posts to implementing the new visual identity by taking portrait photos of all employees, making templates for internal use, tote bags, and sub-identities for internal departments.
I made the WordPress-site “www.lefix-tattoo.com” for a tattoo shop in Copenhagen, following the art direction of the agency’s art director.
This is a very practical education where I was taught equally parts print (analogue) and web (digital). The time spend in the school is limited to about 1/4 of the education. The rest 3/4 of the time, I was working as an apprentice at Henning Larsen Architects where I got valuable hands-on work experience as a graphic designer.
I majored in company communications for both internal and external audiences in an international context. My studies focused on branding, advertising, public relations, and how cultural differences inform a good communications strategy. The course taught me to speak and write English in a professional context.
Basic education which prepares you for university. My main courses were Biology, Sports and Math.
